4 Signs You Need Immediate Furnace Repairs

You don’t want your furnace to break down in the middle of winter in Round Lake, IL. Therefore, you need to keep your eyes and ears open for any signs of a malfunctioning heating system. You’ll need furnace repairs if you’re experiencing any of these four issues:

Short-Cycling Furnace

Furnaces generally cycle for 10 to 15 minutes and start up two or three times an hour. Extremely short, rapid cycles may point to some obstruction in airflow, possibly dirt buildup, that’s causing the system to overheat and forcing it to shut down prematurely as a safety measure.

Lukewarm Air

Maybe your furnace is running for one long cycle and not reaching your set point. This issue could go hand in hand with cold spots in certain rooms. In general, this failure to produce warm air can be due to a problem with the limit switch, burner or flame sensor.

Continual Loud Noises

Aside from some clicking noise during the startup, your furnace should be relatively quiet. If you hear banging or rattling, a part may be loose. Grinding may signify bad bearings, and hissing may signify obstructed airflow.

Poor Indoor Air Quality

Furnaces indirectly affect indoor air quality. Dirt and debris buildup in the system will naturally drift into your house and have a negative effect on household members’ health, especially that of anyone with allergies or asthma. However, since furnaces help remove humidity from a home, dry air isn’t necessarily a sign of a faulty system.
